According to Rig Veda, God Viswakarma is the divine architect and is the creator of Universe. The Rig Veda describes Viswakarma as the god with multi-dimensional vision and supreme strength. He is able to predict well in advance in which direction his creation will move.
God Viswakarma is the personification of Virad viswa braman, the ultimate reality. Viswabramapurana and Moolastambapurana are singing about a Viswakarma who incarnated out of nothingness having five heads known as Sadyojatham, Tathpurusham, Akhoram, Eeshanam, Oordham and ten hands weilding trident ,tools of creation, four vedas ,now the vedopangas ,sucha as Ayurveda, Dhanurveda, Gandarvaveda, Stapatyaveda and fifth veda of Pranavam. Five prajapathies such as Manu ,maya ,Toshtwa, Shilpy and Viswajna originated from his five heads .This concept of god of creation must have been crystalized during the formative period of toolmaking artisan society and closily associated with the advent of metal technology. Later vedic[present day Rig yaju sama adharva] period presented a mutilated form of brama with four heads and his epithet or the remaining head became another viswakarma the divine architect. This visual language reveal the social change, that is the supremacy of clericks and knights over creative working class; before imposing chathurvarnya. In south India there are traditional viswakarmans still dooning sacread treads and following their vedic leneage.
Today God Viswakarma is the presiding deity of all craftsmen and architects. He is called 'Devashilpi' or 'The Architect of Gods' .
